Assignment 4, Hierarchy

 In this assignment, we were asked to make a relief expressing hierarchy with vertical and horizontal cylindrical shapes.
Studio works were not collected.

 In my design I aimed to represent hierarchy using the visual weights of my cylindrical elements. The part which visually weigh more has a larger size of letters, whereas the right part has a rather smaller size, so that the eye notices the left part first.
The project was graded as DC.

Assignment 3 - Dominance and Contrast

Assignment 3, Dominance and Contrast

In this assignment, we were asked to express the concepts of dominance and contrast by making a 2D composition using paper band and black cardboard as the other element.

My first project (delivered in 23.10.2017 15.00)

In my first project, what I had in my mind was to express dominance as the paper band density increases and express contrast as the density decreases and leaves the field to the ground element.

My second project (delivered in 26.10.2017 15.00)

My second project was said to be succesful. I constructed a pattern (2 paperbands - a background with the width of 2 paperbands - 3 paperbands - a background with the width of 3 paperbands) and broke it with the dominant thick paperband.

This assignment was not graded.

In the last assignment of the theme Repetition and Variation, the main idea remained, but the elements are a lot more free in terms of number and proportion.

Assignment 2-3, Repetition and Variation

 In the third assignment of the theme Repetition and Variation, the idea was the same with Assignment 2 - 2 but with varying kinds and numbers of elements, including circles (full, half and quarter).

I was not able to get any critics about my design, and it was not graded either.

Assignment 2-2, Repetition and Variation

 In the second assignment of the theme Repetition and Variation, the shapes were not taken from Assignment 1 but decided by the designer. Emphasized issues from Assignment 2-1 (scaling, rotating, mirroring) remained in this assignment as well.

My project (delivered in 19.10.2017 11.00)

My project was said to be patternlike, as it was constructed by groups that are pasted right next to each other without any variations (scaling, rotating, mirroring). It was also said that the figure - ground relationship was considered well.
The project was graded as DC.

Assignment 2-1 - Repetition and Variation

Assignment 2-1, Repetition and Variation

 In the first assignment of the theme Repetition and Variation, the main outlines were selecting three tonal areas from the previous assignment as the design elements and making a 2D desing using the elements. Scaling, mirroring and rotating were emphasized and recommended.

My first project (delivered in 12.10.2017 11.00)

My first assignment was arbitrarily made, symmetrical and had uneffective usage of ground. On the other hand, I aimed to reach the idea of a gradual change in size in the general composition. My project was said to be linear and symmetrical.

My second project (delivered in 16.10.2017 11.00)

My second project had better overall organisation and better usage of the ground. My groups (the design elements clustered within a rectangular outline) was said to be closed groups, and the overall organisation was said to be rather simple. I aimed to support the ideas of scaling and rotating.
The project was graded as CC.

Assignment 1 - Abstraction

Assignment 1, Abstraction

 In this very first assignment of ours, we were supposed to take greyscale pictures of the Faculty of Architecture, print it out and make an abstract map of it.

As students, we were to pay attention to different values of grey and abstract them accordingly. I aimed to do so.
My project was graded as Medium.
